After Akki, Sanjay Dutt turns Sikh

News Source: www.buzz

Sanjay Dutt and Bunty Walia have decided to make a movie based on the battle of Saragarhi. For those of you who don't know what that is, the battle of Saragarhi was fought during the Tirah campaign in the north-west frontier (now a part of Pakistan) of British India. Many Sikh soldiers sacrificed their lives defending an army post in the battle.

According to a daily, Bunty being a Sikh himself has wanted to make a film on the subject for a very long time now. Happy with this project, Bunty said, "I am a Sikh and since many years, I wanted to tell this brave story of the Sikhs to the world. Rohit broached this subject with me recently and asked if we could make a film on this and I knew my dream has been realised. "

He then spoke to Sanjay Dutt about the idea who loved it.

The film titled, 21 Battle of Saragarhi – From Ashes to Glory will be produced under the banner of Sanjay Dutt Productions and G S Entertainment and directed by Rohit Jugraj. Sanjay Dutt will be playing Havildar Ishar Singh, who'd led the Sikh onslaught in that battle. 20 others have to be roped in for the cast as well.

The trio – Sanjay, Bunty and Rohit even met the I&B Minister Mr Priya Ranjan Das Munshi and Defence Minister AK Antony to make a presentation on the subject.

The film will have some special effects for which Hollywood technicians have been roped in. With a budget estimated at Rs 200 crore, this could pass as the costliest Bollywood film ever made.

The shooting will take place in Morocco where the topography matches that of the North-West frontier according to Walia. An excited Rohit adds, "It is an honour to make a film on 21 unsung heroes." Talking about the film he said, "I have contacted Chris Watts who was the special effects supervisor for 300. I am also in talks with cinematographer Christopher Doyle (of Lady in Water). We'll have at least 9 big actors from Bollywood. A lot of pre-production is needed in the film, so it'll take time to go on the floors. But frankly, I just can't wait to start with the film."

lol

what a crap!!!

hey u

mr.bharat vir, i left a comment on ur previous reply as well, u r such a negative person, atlest sumthing is better the nuffin, if bollywood is makiig this and representing sikhs history in front of many, whts wrong in tht, there are goood movies made in bollywood casting sikhs like GADAR , etc, where they have not made mockery of sikhs,,atlest new generation will learn sumthing out of it, u say leave sikh history alone, what do u think, the new kids wil go in libraries and learn this history there themselfs, what a thick brain u have got man.

Gadar was insulting

I agree the the above mentioned character writes a lot of negative stuff, but I totally disagree that Gadar was a good movie. The 'Sikh' character didn't think twice about cutting his hair and becoming a muslim to go to Pakistan, but as soon as they insulted India, then he went crazy and started killing people. It was really an awful Awful AWFUL movie. I also have my doubts that this movie will accurately portray the history and accurately represent Sikhs, without trimmed beards.

Yes, Gadar sucked...

When you look at the grand message Gadar sent, it was horrible. It was very political. Why is it that when Bollywood makes a movie targeting Pakistan and is anti-Muslim (indirectly, of course), they always make the hero a Sikh??!! It's like the Hindus hide behind the Sikhs when insulting Muslims. My Muslims friends (from Afghanistan) said that also. Gadar isn't the only film to do this. By the way, we need people such as Bharat Vir Singh. He is a cynic (like a Greek Philosopher), and isn't afraid of saying the obvious, albeit in a direct way which we may disagree with. His messages may be negative at times, but he does bring valid points. Fellas, we need to work to bring our community together, no matter how colorful it's characters are. We all walk in different shoes, and our life's expereinces cause us to think/behave/believe as we are. Your perspective is different than mine, and mine is different then the next persons. But, in the end, we are Sikhs. We have much to learn from each other, and need to take our SIKH COMMUNITY to the next level. Best R

Beware of Bollywood!

You can be sure when Bollywood tries its hand at a Sikh history epic,it is sure to mess it up and misrepresent facts and events and also produce some artificially and poorly made-up fake, funny looking Sikhs as actors.Better leave Sikhn history alone than giving it in amateurish hands of Bollywood.Give the job to Hollywood if you must make a movie of it.Sikh millionaires have enough money, why don't they hire Hollywood to produce blockbuster Sikh epics? They waste countless wealth on useless persuits, never on worthwhile projects.

This is one of the many

This is one of the many histories of SIKH Bravery which has been kept on aside for long time. I also read that Saragarhi Battle was taught in the schools in India but again for some reasons could not continue. (May be something Political) Anyway Good that someone is bringing this 'Act Of Bravery' to the forefront. And I hope the movie will come up as the true picture of history, and showing as it was. There were only Sikhs who fought in this Battle.

Looking forward to it...

"This battle has frequently been compared to the heroic stand of a small Greek force against the mighty Persian Army of Xerxes at Thermopylae in 480 B.C." The strategy of this battle is taught in European textbooks. Let it be now taught to the Sikhs and the Subcontinent dwellers. Let stories like this get out to the Sikh masses. Hopefully there will be no pro-India bias in it because, technically speaking, modern-day India didn't exist back then. All the 22 soldiers (led by Isher Singh) were Sikhs, from the 4th Battalion of the Sikh regiment. Hopefully the movie will show that, instead of "modernizing" and showing a few Hindu and Muslim soldiers just to pacify the modern Indian masses.
